<p> To help parents avoid common pitfalls and eliminate sleep issues they are experiencing with their children, Kim Schaf, M.A.T., Owner of Sleep Training Solutions and Certified Infant and Child Sleep Consultant will be offering two different seminars to help parents solve their child’s sleep issues.</p>

<p>Research on child sleep issues estimates that up 33% of children experience problems with sleep, according to several studies in the journal Pediatrics. Furthermore, a study was published in Pediatrics in January 2012 by researchers at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center who found that children do not necessarily outgrow sleep issues.  With these statistics on child sleep issues, it is no wonder parents are trying to educate themselves on how to promote healthy sleep habits for their children.</p>

<p>“Parents will finally be able to get a good night&#8217;s sleep after implementing the information I give them, whether they have been struggling with sleep issues for months or years,” says Schaf.  “If bedtime is struggle, a child is waking 3 times each night, waking at 5:00am or not taking restful naps, these seminars will empower parents so they can solve the sleep problem quickly.” </p>

<p>A free seminar, 7 Tips to Better Sleep, will be offered on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 3:00pm. Participants will learn the seven biggest tips to getting their child to sleep well, and how to avoid the common mistakes many parents make regarding bedtime, naptime, routines, and sleep props. </p>

<p>On March 3, 2012, a Sleep Sense™ seminar will be offered from 9-12pm.  This comprehensive and interactive seminar will help parents solve their child’s specific sleep problems, including issues with bedtime, night wakings, naptime and early rising. Parents will learn about the special sleep needs of infants and toddlers, the negative effects of carrying a sleep debt, how to develop a fun and practical bedtime routine, and common pitfalls that hinder healthy sleep. Parents will take home a Sleep Plan based on their own unique situation that can be implemented immediately to solve their child’s sleep issues.  The value in this seminar is in the follow-up support—each couple (or participant) will receive one week of unlimited email support from Schaf to answer any questions that come up after the seminar to ensure successful sleep training.   This seminar is geared toward parents with children ages 3-18 months.  Space is limited to only 12 couples (or individuals) so early registration is recommended. The cost for the seminar is $  150 and registration is required.</p>

<p> US Sports Camps Coach and Defiance College’s head coach Jodie Holava offers her expertise on the fundamentals of hitting and provides a suggestion to youth softball players that their swing should begin with a “negative movement.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>&#8220;In summer softball camp we train our players that as a hitter prepares to hit a softball, they need to establish a trigger as a timing mechanism as well as a preparatory movement to drive the ball. This begins with what most hitting coaches refer to as the &#8216;negative move&#8217; or &#8216;load,&#8217;&#8221;  Holava states. “During the negative move the hitter begins to shift her body weight in to the back leg as well as separate her hands from her starting position to a load position towards her back shoulder. When loading your hands, it’s important to move your hands back on the same plane to get into this strong attacking position. We want to limit any up or down movement to give us the best opportunity to hit the ball squarely.” </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Holava believes that each hitter can get to this position in their own way, but getting there is a key element to hitting with ultimate power. “Like the stance, hitters can have their own special flair to getting into this position. However, it’s important that all great hitters reach this strong position in time to drive the ball.  You need this load in order to gain momentum and power to drive the pitch. It’s very difficult to do that if you tried to start your swing from a stationary position. Think about trying to throw a softball right from your shoulder, without any windup it’s very tough to get any velocity on the ball. Same with the swing, it’s very tough to get any bat speed! <p>After just six seasons as the head coach of the Defiance College softball program, Jodie Holava is nearing the most wins in school history with a 144-108 overall record. <p> Ramtech Building Systems has announced that a broad selection of the company&#8217;s commercial modular buildings will now be available through both the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and the Texas Procurement and Support Services (TPASS) purchasing programs.  All of the company&#8217;s product offerings will be listed on the GSA&#8217;s eBuy and GSA Advantage online shopping and ordering systems, as well as the TPASS Texas Multiple Award Schedule (TXMAS) state purchasing program.</p>

<p>Ramtech’s standard floor plans for education, medical, and commercial modular buildings will be listed under GSA Schedule 56, a broad category that encompasses products from complete buildings to alternative energy solutions. Ramtech has selected four Special Item Number (SIN) classifications that will list their products under a subcategory labeled “Pre-Engineered, Prefabricated Buildings and Structures.” The company&#8217;s one, two, and four-doctor modular clinics will be listed under classification 361-10D which includes structures designated as medical facility solutions for the military and disaster/emergency response. Their toilet trailer facilities will be part of category 361-10H, which encompasses restrooms, showers and laundry solutions. Both the clinic and toilet trailer buildings will also be part of category 361-10E, a diverse category for professional facilities solutions that will include all of Ramtech&#8217;s portable classrooms, multiple classroom wings and modular office complex designs. To facilitate the procurement for the delivery of the buildings, Ramtech will also be listed under category 361-32, which allows for the installation and site preparation for pre-engineered and prefabricated buildings and structures. According to Gary White, Ramtech&#8217;s vice-president of sales and estimating, &#8220;the visibility of  the GSA and TXMAS co-op purchasing programs will allow us to expand our marketing efforts to both federal and Texas state agencies to help them meet a wide variety of facility requirements.&#8221;</p>

<p> In the wake of a 65-person Campylobacter outbreak linked to unpasteurized (raw) milk produced by Scotland, Pennsylvania-based dairy, The Family Cow, food safety advocate and attorney William Marler is calling for warning labels to be placed on all raw milk products. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>According to Food Safety News, The Family Cow is currently working to improve the safety of its raw milk by installing advanced testing equipment and updating procedures. And, although he recognizes the effort, Marler believes raw milk producers should help consumers become more knowledgeable of the potential dangers of raw milk.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Unlike many others that have been in this position, The Family Cow has owned its mistakes and is clearly trying to create a safer product,” said Marler. “That said, when it comes down to it, dairies like this are selling a raw animal product  which could carry an increased risk of foodborne illness.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In Pennsylvania alone, there have been at least seven foodborne illness outbreaks linked to raw milk since 2006 according to the AP.  Totals show that over that span at least 250 people were sickened after consuming raw milk products that were contaminated with either Campylobacter or Salmonella.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Marler says that proponents of raw milk advertise its potential health and medical benefits such as the prevention of asthma autism, cancer, and Crohn’s Disease.  However, outbreaks such these give others cause to caution consumers of the risks associated with raw milk. </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“Frankly, very few of the benefits associated with raw milk have been scientifically proven, but they do make for good marketing,” Added Marler. “In the best interest of consumers, I would like to see a warning label on raw milk products.”</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Marler would like to see a label with language similar to the following: </p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Unpasteurized milk, also known as raw milk, is a raw agricultural product and may contain harmful bacteria (not limited to E. coli, Campylobacter, Listeria, and Salmonella) and can lead to serious injury or even death.  Pregnant women, infants, children, the elderly, and persons with lowered resistance to disease (immune compromised) have higher risk for harm, which may include bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever, dehydration, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, Guillian-Barre Syndrome, Reactive Arthritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, miscarriage, or death.</p>

<p>“The final regulation on the summary of benefits and coverage makes some important improvements over the preliminary rule, but additional time and flexibility are needed to avoid imposing costs that outweigh the benefits to consumers.</p>

<p>“Health plans and employers regularly update the materials they provide to ensure consumers have clear, user-friendly information about the benefits and costs of their health insurance policies.  The final rule requires an almost complete overhaul and redesign of how information must be provided to consumers.  The short time frame in which to implement this new requirement creates significant administrative challenges that will increase costs and result in duplication because many plans are already developing materials for employers whose policies take effect October 1, 2012.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>“The benefits of providing a new summary of coverage document must be balanced against the increased administrative burden and higher costs to consumers and employers.  Health plans currently offer a wide variety of innovative benefit designs to keep coverage as affordable as possible while meeting the diverse health care needs of consumers and employers.  The rule requires that a separate document be available for each potential family size and for every possible benefit design option, including different cost-sharing levels, prescription drug formularies, and network designs.  Requiring a separate document for each coverage scenario will significantly increase administrative costs and potentially result in consumers having to sort through scores of pages of coverage information.”</p>
